Serie A rivals ready to fight for Ramirez

Fiorentina are set to rival AC Milan in the race to sign Southampton star Gaston Ramirez in the summer.

Fiorentina are considering Ramirez as a potential replacement for Arsenal and Manchester City target Stevan Jovetic when the transfer window re-opens in June.

Montenegrin international Jovetic, who has scored 23 goals in his last 48 Serie A outings, is expected to leave Florence and the ambitious Viola want ex-Bologna man Ramirez to fill the void.

The Uruguayan international became Southampton's record signing when he joined just after the Olympic Games but the £12million signing's first season in English football has been disrupted by injuries.

AC Milan were strongly linked with the 22-year-old attacker in January and they could return if they sense one of their Serie A rivals are ready to steal a march on them in the bidding.

Milan would have to create room for Ramirez in their squad by selling one of their current South American stars but former Manchester City and Real Madrid misfit Robinho is expected to leave Italy and return to Brazil in the summer.
