Luke Shaw has returned to Southampton for treatment after picking up a knock ahead of England Under-21s' friendly against Sweden.
The Saints left-back has been ruled out of Wednesday's game at the Banks's Stadium having been examined after training with Stuart Pearce's squad on Monday morning.
The club have confirmed that Shaw will be assessed ahead of this Saturday's home clash with Premier League champions Manchester City.
The 17-year-old defender has previously been capped at Under-16 and Under-17 level and will be disappointed to miss out on his Under-21 international bow.
