Southampton continue to be linked with a move for Southend striker Lee Barnard, who is also a target for Leeds United.

Saints boss Alan Pardew is said to be in the running to land the striker while reports had also suggested that Leeds were on the verge of wrapping up a transfer.

However the Shrimpers have denied such reports and insist no deal has been struck with Leeds.

A statement read: "Following reports in a national newspaper this morning that Lee Barnard has transferred to Leeds United, Southend United can categorically deny that this rumour is true.

"Although there have been three interested parties in signing Lee during this transfer window, no offer has currently been accepted by the football club.

"At the moment we fully expect Lee to be in the starting line-up for Saturday's game against Wycombe Wanderers."
