Bilel Mohsni has penned a three-month loan deal with Ipswich having finally clinched a route out of Southend.

The mercurial Frenchman endured a chequered campaign with the npower League Two club last season, gaining just as many headlines for his off-field exploits as his undoubted talent on it.

The 25-year-old refused to return to Roots Hall over the summer, stressing his desire to leave the Essex outfit.

West Ham and Birmingham were just two of a number of clubs have taken a look at Mohsni while Ipswich also had the versatile defender-come-midfielder on trial last month.

Mohsni's stay with the Tractor Boys ended after he opted not to extend his time at Portman Road into another week. But, having returned to the Championship club over the past few days, Town manager Paul Jewell has opted to hand him a loan deal until January.

Despite his contract with Southend running until the end of the season, United boss Paul Sturrock had already stated Mohsni will not be returning to the club.
