Michael Timlin will miss Southend's trip to Accrington having this week been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken leg.
The midfielder sustained a displaced fracture of his tibia in the late stages of Tuesday night's 1-0 victory at Leyton Orient in the first leg of their Johnstone's Paint Trophy southern area final.
Midfielders Marc Laird and Michael Spillane both return to contention, however, having been cup-tied for the Trophy victory and their availability provides welcome relief for manager Paul Sturrock.
Leading scorer Gavin Tomlin has missed the last two matches with a thigh injury and is again set to miss out, while Sturrock will assess two unnamed defenders who are struggling with knocks.
