St Mirren could welcome back defender David Barron next month after scans showed his injury was not as serious as first thought.
The 22-year-old suffered the injury during the Co-operative Cup final, with fears that he had damaged his medial ligament and would be out for the rest of the season.
However, scans have shown that that is not the case and he will be back playing again within a month.
Boss Gus MacPherson said: "David got good news after his scan. It wasn't as bad as we thought - the medical team reckoned he might have suffered medial ligament damage but we were able to rule that out.
"There was a fear David could have been out for the rest of the season but it looks like he'll be okay. It's good news and hopefully we'll have him back soon.
"Now we just need to wait and see how he progresses during his rehab but fingers crossed he's fine and it's just a case of getting fit."
