Gus MacPherson has described the 4-0 win over Celtic as "just three points" but feels the goal difference could prove crucial.

The shock victory has seen the Buddies move five points clear of Falkirk at the bottom of the SPL and was all the more impressive following Sunday's cup final heartache against Rangers.

Wednesday's result looks to have signalled the end of Tony Mowbray's spell at Parkhead, but MacPherson refuses to get too carried away with the victory.

The Buddies boss said: "The frustration has been that we have drawn far too many games at home, but we took our chances and the goalkeeper makes crucial saves at crucial times and we get the three points.

"It's just three points, that's all it is. It makes a difference to the goal difference, because we've had criticism in that department - but it's just three points.

"It's just shown us what the players are capable of doing. We've shown it this season - at home especially."
