Gus MacPherson is looking for some friendly opponents as he aims to get his St Mirren side firing on all cylinders for the new season.

The Buddies boss is unhappy that his players have a near two-week wait between their Co-operative Insurance League Cup first-round clash against East Stirlingshire at Ochilview on Sunday August 2 and the SPL opener with Hibs at Easter Road on August 15. Therefore MacPherson is hoping to set up a friendly encounter in between.

He said: "We'll need a game to keep us ticking over until the SPL kicks-off on August 15, so we are actively looking for a game to be played sometime over the weekend before the league season starts."
