Assistant boss Andy Millen is the hot favourite to succeed Gus MacPherson, who was sacked by St Mirren on Tuesday.

A club statement declared that the board felt their relationship with MacPherson had "run its course" and a "change of direction" was required, after Saints finished 10th in the SPL.

Millen, who made over 100 appearances for the club before retiring in 2008, is being strongly tipped to fill the vacancy, although several other names are also in the frame.

Another former Saint, Rangers coach Kenny McDowell, is also believed to be in the running, as is Partick Thistle manager Ian McCall and Hamilton boss Billy Reid.
