Michael Higdon says he chose to leave Falkirk and sign a two-year deal at St Mirren because his family are settled living in Scotland.
The 25-year-old Liverpool-born hit-man had been linked to clubs in England but claims his family's preference to stay north of the border was one of his reasons for making the move to Paisley.
Higdon said: "I wanted to join a club who really wanted me.
"I had a few options but with my family settled in Scotland I believe St Mirren is a good move.
"Other things such as the new stadium and training complex also help when making up your mind."
Buddies boss Gus MacPherson said: "Michael has a physical presence which is an area we needed filled after the departure of Jim Hamilton and we're delighted we have got it. He also leads the line well and has a good touch."
