Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam is set to miss the clash with Tottenham at White Hart Lane following the shock death of his father.

Adam has been granted compassionate leave by the Potters and boss Tony Pulis has told the midfielder to take as long as he needs before returning to the club.

It means Dean Whitehead is set to return to the midfield and should be the only change from the Stoke side that drew 1-1 with Everton at the Britannia Stadium last week.

Defender Ryan Shotton is available for selection again having completed a one-match suspension but may have to settle for the bench in north London.

It is also expected that the Spurs game will come too soon for striker Michael Owen even though he is stepping up his return from a hamstring injury.
