Leeds are also showing an interest in Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes as an alternative to Stoke stopper Jack Butland.
Leeds boss Brian McDermott has used experienced shot-stopper Paddy Kenny in all 30 of the club's Championship matches this season but is now reportedly considering other options.
Both Butland and Gomes are desperate for game time in order to enhance their chances of going to this summer's World Cup and Leeds are keen to take full advantage.
The Yorkshire outfit have made contact with Butland, who has struggled to break into the Stoke team this season since joining permanently from Birmingham City last summer.
The 20-year-old has an outside chance of making Roy Hodgson's England squad for the World Cup and is reportedly open to a loan move to Elland Road.
Leeds are also thought to be interested in Brazilian shot stopper Gomes, who hasn't played a league game for Tottenham since 2011 and spent part of last season on loan at German club Hoffenheim.
