Ipswich striker bid rejected

StokeIpswich have confirmed they turned down a bid on transfer deadline day, thought to be from Stoke, for striker Jon Walters.

Tony Pulis was known to be monitoring Walters' situation and it's thought he made an offer to Town for the 25-year-old as the clock ticked down on Monday ahead of the transfer window closing.

Reports suggest Everton, Hull, Wigan and West Brom were all also interested in the frontman but Ipswich chief executive Derek Bowden has insisted all bids for Walters would have been rejected as he was not for sale.

"There was early interest in Jon which was declined by us," Bowden told the East Anglian Daily Times.

"There was another enquiry a week before the window when we made it clear he was not for sale. We never had a firm offer from Jon in writing.

"There was an enquiry on the Saturday which we declined and there was speculation that they would come in again on Sunday, but there was no call."

On Stoke's believed bid, he added: "We had another on deadline day, but even if it had been a written offer it would have been declined because he was not for sale."
