Asmir Begovic has hinted he decided to join Stoke ahead of Spurs because had a better chance of securing regular first-team action.

The Bosnian keeper completed a £3.25million switch from troubled Portsmouth to Stoke on transfer deadline day.

He was at one point close to moving to Spurs but he says "sporting reasons" were behind his decision to make the move to the Britannia Stadium.

Begovic will have to displace current Potters number one Thomas Sorensen if he is to secure regular action but he appears confident of doing that.

"Sorensen is the current No.1 but I intend to work hard and play regularly soon," said the 22-year-old.

"I was very close to signing for Tottenham, but rejected them due to sporting reasons."
