Dave Kitson has ruled out a permanent move to current loan club Middlesbrough as he wants to fight for a place in the Stoke side.

The 29-year-old joined Gordon Strachan's Championship outfit last week on a temporary basis until January as he looks to gain some regular first-team football.

However, after making his debut in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest, Kitson confirmed that there is no chance of him staying at the Riverside on a permanent basis because he wants to fight for a place at the Britannia Stadium. The £5.5million signing from Reading in summer 2008 also revealed that his family are settled in the south and he does not want to uproot them to the North-East.

Kitson said: "It's an opportunity to play half-a-dozen games to get my match fitness back up and then get back to Stoke to try to force my way back in there.

"Am I flexible on staying with Boro? No, not really. It's six weeks and I'll try 100 per cent to do my very, very best to leave them in a good situation, but I signed a contract at Stoke and my aim is to get back in that first team.

"I thought I'd done it at the start of the season and I'll try to do it again."

He added in the Sentinel: "There are reasons now why a permanent deal would be very, very difficult. It would affect more people than me and that's not fair.

"My family's carved out its own life away from football. My wife has a very good job in London she's worked really hard to get, and it wouldn't be fair for her to leave at this stage."
