Late deal makes it a Potters hat-trick

StokeMichael Tonge sealed a late move to Stoke before the transfer deadline, joining Danny Higginbotham and Tom Soares at the Britannia.

The Sheffield United midfielder made the move to the Potters before the window closed on Monday, joining Stoke in £2million transfer and becoming Tony Pulis' third signing of the day.

Tonge, who has spent the last eight years at Bramall Lane, has penned a four-year contract - the same length of deal than that signed by former Palace man Soares.

Speaking about the Tonge deal, Pulis told the club's website: "I am delighted to have signed a player like Michael. I have been a long-time admirer of him and he will bring a lot to our squad.

"He can play in a number of positions, which is important, and he will add some balance to the squad."

Meanwhile, Soares cost Stoke £1.25million from Crystal Palace and the Potters are pleased to have capture a 'very talented English player'.

Chief executive Tony Scholes said: "Despite being only 22 years old he has amassed over 150 league appearances and also has Premier League experience.

"He is a player the manager rates extremely highly and we believe he will prove to be an excellent signing for the club."

Centre-back Higginbotham has resigned from Sunderland, penning a three-year deal after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.
