Stoke are reported to have failed in an attempt to sign Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon on transfer deadline day.

Potters boss Mark Hughes moved into the transfer market to bring Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi back to the Britannia Stadium on loan, but reports claim he tried to land Lennon first.

The Spurs winger was made available and Hughes was keen to get him on board, but the player is said to have turned his back on potential moves to Stoke and QPR in favour of staying at White Hart Lane.

Hughes then turned to Assaidi who impressed during his initial spell at the club last season.
