Stoke midfielder Salif Diao has almost agreed a new deal to remain at the club following interest from Italy and France.

The 32-year-old Senegal star has been a big hit since arriving from Liverpool but was unhappy with the original terms of a new 12-month contract.

But the details have been ironed out to extend Diao's stay at the Britannia Stadium.

His agent told the Sentinel: "I have had long discussions with Tony Scholes, Tony Pulis and Salif, and we are 99 per cent there.

"Salif loves playing for Tony Pulis and has a great respect for him. He has had offers from Italy and France, but Tony Pulis has made clear that Salif is a big part of his plans. Salif is very close to committing himself to a further year."
