New Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is delighted at his move to the Britannia Stadium because he has joined a club "moving forward".

Begovic joined from crisis-club Portsmouth on deadline day in a deal said to be worth around £3.25million and he admitted he is relishing playing for the Potters in the remainder of the campaign.

"It has been an eventful time for me, one way or another, but I am delighted to be joining Stoke because it is a club moving forward," he said.

Begovic, who has penned a four-and-a-half year deal, revealed there were other clubs keen on him but he was happy to join the Potters.

"I was aware of interest from one or two clubs, but once I found out that Stoke wanted to sign me, I was convinced that it was the right move for me," he added.

"My time at Portsmouth has been great for my development, but this is an exciting new challenge for me to push on in my career."
