Potters bid to secure Begovic

Stoke have not had any enquiries over goalkeeper Asmir Begovic and are hoping to tie him down to a new deal.

Begovic has often been linked with the top clubs in the Premier League and came close to signing for Manchester City before Roberto Mancini was sacked.

The rumours have refused to go away regards his future but chairman Peter Coates says no-one has made an approach for the Bosnian, and hopes it stays that way.

Coates believes Begovic is happy at the Britannia Stadium and hopes he will agree to a new deal.

"He's very much our player and nothing has happened recently to change that because we haven't had any enquiries for him," Coates said. "My own preference is that he stays. He can stay forever as far as I'm concerned.

"He's clearly a top-class goalkeeper, but also a very good sportsman and a lovely man. I also think he himself is very settled here and genuinely enjoys being at this football club."
