Stoke are reported to have hijacked Cardiff's attempts to sign Benfica striker Nelson Oliveira, with the Potters now leading the race.
The Portuguese giants are keen to send the talented 21-year-old out on a season-long loan so he can get some regular first-team football under his belt and Cardiff looked to be in the box seat.
The newly promoted Bluebirds have been trying to hammer out a deal for the last few weeks, but now Stoke have entered the running and look set to take him to the Britannia Stadium.
Reports claim that Stoke have upped the ante and are willing to pay Benfica a fee of £860,000 to take him on loan for the season, and the Portuguese side have accepted.
The arrival of Oliveira will cast further doubt over the future of Stoke striker Kenwyne Jones, as rumours suggest Hull City are the latest club to show an interest.
