Tony Pulis is delighted with the signing of Asmir Begovic from Portsmouth but warned him he faces a fight to get in the Stoke team.

The Potters beat the 5pm transfer deadline on Monday to seal a £3.5million deal for the 22-year-old Bosnian shot-stopper after long drawn out negotiations with cash-strapped Pompey, who even threatened to report them to the football authorities at one stage over their conduct.

However, while Pulis was pleased to finally get the deal done, he hinted that Begovic would not walk straight into the Stoke side after current number one Thomas Sorensen kept a clean sheet at Sunderland in Monday's 0-0 draw.

Pulis said: "We worked very hard and we are very pleased. He is a great addition to the squad.

"Thomas Sorensen did very well tonight.

"He (Begovic) is going to be part of the squad and if he gets a chance it's up to him to take it."
