Stoke look to have missed out on Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz, who is set to join Serie A outfit Bologna.
Santa Cruz has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium and Potters boss Mark Hughes was keen to be reunited with the player after working with him at Blackburn before signing him for City.
The Paraguay international insists that he had a number of offers on the table but he has decided to opt for the Italian side, much to the disappointment of Hughes.
"We are one step away from a positive solution," Santa Cruz said. "I think the talks with Bologna will have a positive ending. I have every confidence there will be no major problems.
"I have already told the German club that my first choice is Bologna."
Hughes is looking to make changes to his strike force this summer with both Cameron Jerome and Kenwyne Jones expected to head for the exit door, but Santa Cruz will not be heading the other way.
