Stoke boss Mark Hughes is hoping to be reunited with Roque Santa Cruz but the striker could opt for a move to Hamburg instead.
Hughes signed the Paraguay international when in charge at Blackburn and then also took him to Manchester City after he was appointed manager at the Etihad Stadium.
Despite the hefty price tag, Santa Cruz struggled to make an impact at City and is now on the look-out for a new club after becoming something of a forgotten man.
The striker is available on a free transfer after City unsurprisingly opted against offering him a new deal and reports suggest Hughes is keen to bring him to the Britannia Stadium.
However, Santa Cruz will not be short of offers this summer and he could opt to try his luck in Germany once again, with Hamburg said to be showing an interest.
