Sheffield Wednesday have dismissed suggestions they are interested in signing Kenwyne Jones, who could still have a future at Stoke.
Reports have linked Jones with a move away from the Britannia Stadium as boss Mark Hughes looks to raise cash to fund his own transfers this summer, and Wednesday has been mentioned as a possible destination.
The Owls have also been linked with Newcastle's Shola Ameobi but both players appear to be out of their price range, and Dave Jones has blasted the rumours.
"I don't know where people keep getting these names from," he said. "One minute it is Kenwyne Jones and the next it is Shola Ameobi. People keep linking us with players who are at clubs with far bigger wage bills than ourselves. It is absolutely ridiculous."
Meanwhile, Hughes' number two Mark Bowen says Jones could still have a future with the club as long as he knuckles down on his return from international duty.
"I think he is one of those who when he is right fitness-wise and mentally, he is a handful," Bowen revealed. "It's about getting that consistency from him."
