Tigers pounce for Potters target

StokeTottenham defender Anthony Gardner looks like snubbing the chance to join Stoke City by moving to fellow Premier League new-boys Hull.

The Stafford-born former Port Vale centre-half looked to be on his way to the Potters after the club reportedly made a £1million bid for his services. However, when that was rejected, Hull boss Phil Brown moved in with the offer of taking Gardner on loan until January with a view to a permanent £2.5million deal which dwarfs the Potters' offer.

The 27-year-old is now set to go to the KC Stadium to undergo a medical and complete the formalities of the switch on Friday, snubbing the opportunity to be reunited with former Vale boss John Rudge who is now Stoke's director of football.
