Stoke midfielder Michael Tonge admits he must wait for his chance after starting just once in the Premier League for the Potters.

Tonge made the switch from Sheffield United in the summer for around £2.5m but has so far failed to cement a first-team place.

However, the 25-year-old has vowed to be ready when he is called on by boss Tony Pulis which could be as early as Tuesday in the Carling Cup clash with Derby.

Tonge told the Daily Star: "The lads who have been playing have done ever so well so you can't argue with that.

"The manager has said it is not just going to be 11 players who keep us in the league, it is going to be the whole squad.

"Everybody has a really good attitude and we will need that throughout the season."
