Jon Walters will miss the Republic of Ireland's next two games after his groin problem flared up again in the defeat at Fulham.
Walters had been struggling with the problem all week in the lead up to the clash at Craven Cottage but was declared fit enough to take his place in the Potters side that eventually lost 1-0.
However, Walters felt the injury again towards the end of the game and had to be replaced by Peter Crouch.
Walters will not take any risks with the injury and will now sit out the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifiers against Germany and Kazakhstan in the hope of being fit enough when Stoke return to action.
"There are a couple of international games I'm going to miss after it became sore again with about 15 minutes to go," Walters said. "I had only trained on Friday after missing the rest of the week."
