Sunderland are reportedly set to step-up their interest in Toulouse defender Cheikh M'Bengue.
Sunderland boss Paulo Di Canio has been looking for a left-back all summer with M'Bengue the latest of a host of names linked with a move to the club.
The 25-year-old was reportedly offered to Di Canio at the start of the month but they faced competition from Ligue1 giants Marseille.
Their interest in M'Bengue has since cooled, leaving Sunderland free to make their move.
Fresh reports from France claim the Black Cats are ready to step-up their interest in the Senegal international.
The Premier League club value the player at €2.5million (£2.13million) as he only has 12 months left on his contract at the Stadium Municipal.
Should M'Bengue move to the north-east he would become Sunderland's 11th new signing of a busy summer, following the likes Jozy Altidore, Emanuele Giaccherini and Vito Mannone to the Stadium of Light.
