Panathinaikos star Quincy Owusu-Abeyie is being linked with a move to Sunderland although Crystal Palace lead the chase.
The former Arsenal star has impressed Ian Holloway after linking up with the Eagles during pre-season but he has yet to be offered a deal and that leaves the door open for other clubs to swoop.
Sunderland could be one such club as reports claim Black Cats boss Paolo Di Canio is interested in taking him to the Stadium of Light and could hijack Palace's bid.
The Eagles are still in the box seat as the player continues to train with the club but a move needs to be hammered out soon or the 27-year-old will start to look at other options.
The Ghana international has been told he can leave his current club, Greek giants Panathinaikos, and is available on a free transfer.
