Sunderland are reportedly closing in on Spurs striker Darren Bent but new boss Steve Bruce also has other irons in the fire.

The Black Cats are yet to swoop in the transfer market so far this summer but funds have been generated by the sales of Michael Chopra and Greg Halford.

Bent, 25, looks set to cost around £8m but Bruce has also been linked with Chile international Hunberto Suazo and Bordeaux's Marouane Chamakh.
