Black Cats new boys settled in

Sunderland defender John O'Shea has paid tribute to the new players at the club and is delighted they have settled in so quickly.

Boss Gus Poyet managed to add five new players to his squad during the January transfer window with Liam Bridcutt, Marcos Alonso, Oscar Ustari, Santiago Vergini and Ignacio Scocco all drafted in for the relegation battle ahead.

Former Manchester United defender O'Shea says the side are benefiting from the way the new players have settled in so quickly.

He told the Echo: "The manager knew all about the players he brought in in January.

"We needed to add quality to the squad too, to increase the competition, and I think he's done that.

"That was an important thing for him. He wanted players who could settle in quickly because of the position we're in.
