Steve Bruce has revealed that defender John Mensah is a big doubt for Sunderland's game against Wigan with a hamstring injury.

The Ghana international looks set to become the latest casualty to join the walking wounded at the Stadium of Light with a host of first-team players set to miss Saturday's game against Latics.

Bruce has targeted the game against his former employers as a vital one in the Black Cats' season as he attempts to end a run of one win in their last 14 league matches.

The former Birmingham boss now looks set be without Mensah for the game with Bruce revealing he is a big doubt for Saturday.

"John Mensah has got a bit of a nick in his hamstring and we will see how he is in the next 24-48 hours. But he is an obvious doubt," he said.
