Bruce cool on spending spree

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says he would like to sign two more players but admits he is in no rush to add to his squad.

Bruce was linked with Diego Buonanotte, Nestor Calderon and Kieren Westwood over the weekend while Middlesbrough trio Adam Johnson, Gary O'Neil and David Wheater are all said to be targets.

The Black Cats boss will again be armed with a large transfer kitty when the transfer window opens but has played down suggestions he could go on a spending spree.

"I've not really looked, if I'm honest, because the big clubs don't usually have a shuffle in January," Bruce revealed. "I could do with perhaps just a couple more bodies, but then managers are always going to say that!

"The one thing I never want to do is work with a huge squad - that's why I wanted to trim this one when I came here. If there's anybody available who I think can improve us then I will ask the question.

"But I'm really happy with the balance of the squad as it stands at the moment."
