Sunderland have entered the race for Manchester United striker Frazier Campbell and hope to pip Hull to the signing.

The England Under-21 star has admitted that he is now totally confused about where he will be playing his football next season after the Black Cats entered the race.

Hull boss Phil Brown had hoped that the offer of regular first-team football and a contract said to be worth £1m a season would be enough to land the player after United had accepted a £6m offer.

However, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has now muddied the waters by declaring his interest in the player he tried to land on loan when in charge of Wigan last season.

Sunderland are now preparing to match Hull's £6m offer and with reported interest from Blackburn a transfer battle looks to be on the cards this summer.
