Sunderland could be without Jordan Henderson for a lengthy spell after the midfielder picked up an ankle injury against Wigan.

The Black Cats had another disappointing afternoon as they had to settle for a share of the points in a 1-1 draw with Wigan but it got worse as Henderson damaged ankle ligaments.

Sunderland are waiting to hear the full diagnosis but boss Steve Bruce admits it does not look good and is expecting to be without the youngster for some time.

"That's the most disappointing thing of the afternoon. It doesn't look great for the kid," Bruce revealed. "We will see how the scans and X-rays are, but it will certainly be weeks and possibly months."
