Sunderland have pulled out of the race to sign Gambian midfielder Tijan Jaiteh, fearing they would not get clearance.

The Black Cats were keen on wrapping up a deal for the player, who is currently in Norway with Brann, but pulled out because of fears they would not get a work permit.

The player was disappointed not to earn a move to the Stadium of Light but it looks as though he could get a chance to play in England, as Blackburn could be about to do a deal.

"Sunderland were very interested in Tijan," the player's agent Per-Ove Ludvigsen told BT. "But they did not believe he would get the necessary documentation. Tijan was disappointed as he knew the deal was close, but that is something that did not happen."
