Defender linked with Black Cats

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is being linked with a summer move for highly-rated Zambian international centre-half Stoppila Sunzu.

The defender was linked with a switch to Arsenal and Reading last month and he appears to be keen on a transfer to the Premier League.

He previously had a trial at Reading but a deal never materialised. However, after appearing for Zambia in the African Nations Cup last month, it is thought it would be easier to sort out a work permit for the defender this time around.

His club TP Mazembe insist he is under contract until 2015 and rate him in the £4m bracket, but he believes that he is a free agent and can join anyone he wants in the summer.

That confusion may put off interested parties but if it turns out he is a free agent then O'Neill will be in the race to land him.
