Sunderland new signing Matthew Killgallon believes Saturday's game against Wigan represents a pivotal moment in the Black Cats season.

The central defender has settled in very quickly at the Stadium of Light since moving to the north-east during the January transfer window after completing a £2million switch from Sheffield United.

The 26-year-old says he is well aware of the situation Sunderland currently find themselves in as they hoover above the relegation zone and is targeting the match against the Latics as a must win game.

"It will be another pressure game for us against Wigan on Saturday because they are another team who are sitting in a similar sort of position to ourselves in the league," said Kilgallon.

"It's one we will feel we can win. If we keep another clean sheet, I'll be confident we'll win because of Darren (Bent) and Kenwyne (Jones)."
