Defender wants to push on

Sunderland defender Carlos Cuellar says the win over Newcastle on Sunday came as a huge relief to everyone at the club.

The Spaniard was also in the side that beat Newcastle at the end of last season but he believes the home win was something to really treasure, especially as it was desperately needed by the Black Cats.

The win was vital to the club though as it took them off the foot of the table, leaving managerless Crystal Palace bottom of the league, and

Cuellar hopes the team can build on the victory.

He told the club's website: "It's one step forward for us. The three points are very important and getting them from your rivals is a big confidence boost.

"We played better than we have been; we pressed forward, created chances and that is something we need to do a lot more of.

"We need start believing in ourselves and play with confidence to get ourselves out of the situation that we are in."
