Napoli midfielder Walter Gargano is reportedly Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio's latest transfer target as he continues to rebuild.
Di Canio has signed a raft of new players this summer but still wants to land at least a couple more with a midfielder in the mould of Gargano, and a couple of full-backs on his wishlist.
He had been linked with Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone and Inter Milan's Alfred Duncan but neither deal materialised and now, according to the latest reports, Gargano is the top target.
The Uruguay international was left out of the Napoli squad for this weekend's Emirates Cup in London amid suggestions new boss Rafa Benitez is looking to offload him.
The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at Inter Milan and his future remains unclear after so far failing to sort out a permanent move to the San Siro.
Inter star Zdravko Kuzmanovic has also been mentioned as a possible target but it is thought Di Canio's interest in the Serbia international has cooled over the past few days.
