Sunderland have allowed striker Ji Dong-won to join German side Augsburg on loan for the rest of the season.

The South Korea international moved to Wearside from Chunnam Dragons in the summer of 2011 and scored a memorable winner against Manchester City on New Year's Day last year.

However, the 21-year-old has fallen down the pecking order this season, failing to make a first-team appearance.

Black Cats Boss Martin O'Neill has previously indicated Ji would be able to leave the club in the January transfer window and they have wasted no time in wrapping up a move.

The striker travelled to Germany to pass a medical on New Year's day and has put pen-to-paper on a deal taking him through to the end of the season.

Stefan Reuter, managing director of FCA Sports, told Augsburg's official website: "It's good that the transfer worked out before the start of training.

"Ji Dong-won can be used in several attacking positions."
