Roy Keane now hopes to get on with matters on the pitch after finally assembling a Sunderland squad he is "delighted" with.

The ambitious Irishman recruited 10 new players in the summer transfer window to avoid another season of flirting with relegation, with Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney the latest names to arrive on Wearside ahead of Monday's deadline.

The West Ham pair join Steed Malbranque, Pascal Chimbonda, Teemu Tainio, El-Hadji Diouf, David Healy and Djibril Cisse at the Stadium of Light and Keane now wants to get back to matters on the pitch.

"I'm delighted with what we've got," he told the club's official website. "I was pleased to get George (McCartney) on the last day of business, very much so. We left it late but we'd been trying to negotiate with West Ham for a week or so, fortunately for us we got it done on the final day.

"That was the player I thought we needed in terms of the left-back position. At least it's over with now and we can relax and focus on the players we have."
