Sunderland have allowed Graham Kavanagh to go out on loan to Carlisle United, where he will spend the next month.

The 34-year-old midfielder is well out of the first-team picture at the Stadium of Light and boss Roy Keane is happy to let him go out and get some regular action.

Kavanagh will spend the next month with Carlisle but there is a chance the move could be made permanent if he impresses.

"Graham is a very good player and he also comes with experience and knowledge," Cumbrians manager John Ward told the club's website. "He can help us on the pitch with the way that he can play the game and he can also bring that experience into it as well.

"He's actually one of those players that you would sign without seeing him, because he brings so much into a team. He gives us cover for our injured players, of course and I think he has the type of character that will help to give everybody a lift."
