Simon Mignolet's agent says there is still work to be done before the Sunderland goalkeeper can complete his move to Liverpool.
The two clubs were believed to have reached an agreement on Saturday about an £11m deal to take the Belgium international to Anfield for the Black Cats.
However, his representative Guy Vandermissen claims those reports were premature as negotiations are still on-going after over a week of talks.
Vandermissen remains quietly confident though that the move will happen and is backing Mignolet to dislodge Liverpool's current number one Pepe Reina.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has already indicated that Mignolet would be coming in to compete with Reina rather than to replace him despite interest from Barcelona in the Spaniard.
Vandermissen said: "I know the qualities of Simon and he can cope with any competition, it is no problem.
"We hope that there can be a deal and he can go to Liverpool. If you go from Sunderland to Liverpool it is a big step forward.
"You have to make decisions at certain times."
