New rival for Black Cats target

SunderlandHarry Redknapp has revealed that Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul will snub both Sunderland and Aston Villa to join Portsmouth.

The Pompey boss spoke out about the 22-year-old French defender, who had looked destined to join up with Sunderland along with former team-mates Teemu Tainio and Pascal Chimbonda, after Black Cats boss Roy Keane made a four player swoop also involving Steed Malbranque.

However following claims on Friday that Aston Villa had made a late effort to sign Kaboul from under the noses of Sunderland, Redknapp has now confirmed that he has made a bid to take him to the FA Cup winners for £3million.

He told the Daily Star: "Sunderland and Villa both made fantastic offers, but the lad decided he wanted to come to Portsmouth.

"Hopefully the deal will be completed over the weekend. Younes is a good, young player with bags of potential. He will be a great addition to the squad."
