Gus Poyet says Sunderland's Boxing Day win against 10-man Everton was "incredible" and the perfect Christmas present.
The Black Cats saw off Roberto Martinez's side thanks to Ki Sung-Yueng's first-half penalty - which came after Tim Howard was sent off for fouling the South Korea international when he was in on goal.
The win, Sunderland's first on the road in the Premier League this season, moved them just three points from safety and Poyet was predictably delighted with the day.
He said: "The best present you could ever give me is three points! It's a good day. It was extremely difficult, even against 10 men.
"But football is incredible, you never know what is going to happen.
"We had a plan to make it difficult for Everton, to make sure that we were organised and we needed to defend well. But everything changed with that mistake [Howard giving away the penalty], that one action. You cannot plan for that.
"I always say that I like games without accidents, and that was a big accident and we took advantage."
He added: "For us, three points is something incredible."
