Niall Quinn has confirmed that Anton Ferdinand won't be sold by Sunderland, while revealing there will not be an influx of new faces.
The Black Cats chairman has spoken out about the club's transfer ambitions this summer as new boss Steve Bruce is looking at putting his own slant on the current squad.
However, Quinn insists that, while he will be backed in the transfer market, there will not be massive changes.
The former Black Cats and Republic of Ireland international striker singled out Ferdinand, who joined the club for £8million from West Ham last summer, as a player they have no intentions of selling as he is confident the 24-year-old can become a regular England international while at the Stadium of Light.
Quinn said: "There's some fabulous talent here. When Anton Ferdinand matures, he has the opportunity to become an international footballer for England and he can have a brilliant career."
In the meantime Bruce is reportedly looking to sign a new centre-back, a creative midfielder and a centre-forward this summer, but Quinn does not anticipate a hive of activity.
He added: "We're not going to drastically overhaul the squad. We've got some lovely footballers at the club and Steve recognises that.
"The day he was appointed, even before that, we said what we wanted and that's someone who could put a couple of men in there amongst good players.
"Steve gets that, gets what we need and understands it more than most people. We're on the same wavelength in terms of the type of player we need.
"I'll not interfere once I know it's that type of player who wants to come and give a performance week in, week out that the people will applaud.
"Steve knows that more than anyone. He knows the type of character we need to play in front of what can be a brilliant crowd, or a tough crowd and you need to be a man to get through it."
