Skipper injury boost

Sunderland have received a boost on the injury front with the news that Lee Cattermole has not damaged his knee ligaments.

The combative midfielder missed the trip to Everton last weekend after picking up the injury in training and there were fears that the skipper would be out for a while if it were ligament damage.

A scan has revealed that there is no ligament or lasting muscle damage and he has an outside chance of being fit for the clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Meanwhile, defender Phil Bardsley, who missed the game at Everton last week after a setback in his return from injury, is already an early injury doubt for the Fulham trip.
