Sunderland skipper Lee Cattermole is determined to stay in the side until the end of the season even though he risks injury.

Cattermole has a problem with his medial knee ligaments and is having to be managed carefully by the club's medical team but he is determined to push on and stay in the starting line up between now and the end of the season.

He came off at the end of the clash at Manchester City on Saturday but has revealed that was merely a precautionary substitution and he is no worse than normal.

He revealed: "I felt my medial a little in the Everton game but I was fine after that. Then I just felt it again in the closing stages at City. Just tweaked.

"It won't be a problem though. There was just a little stretch of my ligament. I went off as a precaution."
